Fluid structure interaction analysis on an aircraft wing

Objective: To evaluate structural behaviour of an aircraft wing with application of aerodynamic loads from CFD analysis

Challenges: Fluid structure mapping in Ansys workbench and evaluation of aircraft wing structural performance

Details: Based on the flight speed and altitude, aerodynamic loads were evaluated on the wing body and loads were directly mapped onto structural domain using FSI techniques. Complete mapping of CFD loads were possible and loads were evaluated. Further, conjugate heat transfer analysis were carried out to estimate the effect of thermal load onto the wing body. Significant variation in results were obtained after incorporation of aerodynamic load mapping onto the structural domain.

Results: Effect of aerodynamic loads on aircraft wing body was evaluated and stress results were studied in detail.
