Model generation and heat transfer analysis of fin and tube heat exchanger

Objective: To conduct a thermal analysis on various configurations of heat exchanger

Challenges: Creating blocks for hexahedral mesh

Details: Variousconfigurations are modelled by varying the number of rows vertically, number of tubes across, width of the heat exchanger and flow rate of air. Air is cooled by the R404a refrigerant. Air domain, Aluminium fins with copper or stainless steel tubes and coolant domain are modelled, meshed and used for CFD analysis. Analysis trials were performed for different fin thickness, fin spacing etc.

Results: The temperature drop of air, temperature rise of coolant, heat absorbed by coolant from air are measured.
