Effect of tip clearance and axial gap variation in a three stage axial compressor

Objective: To evaluate the performance of a three stage axial compressor with varying tip clearance and axial gap.

Challenges: To model three stage axial compressor rotor for baseline configuration and evaluate performance. Further rotor tip clearance and axial gap in first stage rotor and stator were varied to evaluate performance change.

Details: Model and Mesh was generated for the three stage axial compressor case. Further, baseline analysis were completed at design operating conditions and the results were tabulated. Parametric study was carried out by varying the axial gap between first stage rotor and stator. Further study was carried out by changing the tip clearance values in the first stage rotor blade tip region.

Results: Evaluated the performance of multi stage axial compressor for difference tip clearance and axial gap configurations.
